Shure's PGA series microphones are updated versions of the popular PG series mics. The Shure PGA57, of course, is also part of that series, and features a rich history that can be traced back to the highly versatile Shure SM57 microphone. The PGA57 honours that legacy by being both exceedingly versatile and remarkably affordable. Shure is known to produce excellent entry-level gear, so you're assured of outstanding quality despite of the reasonable price. This microphone features a cardioid pickup pattern, meaning you won't be bothered by feedback and allowing you to stand rather close to the speakers.

PGA57: application

The PGA57 has many different uses, but it's most famously used with guitar amplifiers, as it can be placed very close to the speaker, while still offering great sound. Furthermore, it's also excellently suited for use with snare drums and wind instruments. It can handle remarkably high sound pressure levels without distorting the sound, meaning loud instruments like the aforementioned drums or brass instruments won't be a problem. It'll even amplify a kick drum with no problem.
